Sufficient bone thickness and height are required for the implant to osseointegrate (fuse with the bone). Following tooth loss, the jawbone resorbs over time; particularly in the upper posterior region, the sinus cavity may expand downward following tooth loss, reducing the available bone height. If the bone is insufficient, the implant cannot be placed directly and bone augmentation may be required first.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Bone grafting is the reconstruction of missing bone volume using bone particulate or block materials called grafts. Sinus lifting, on the other hand, involves gently elevating the sinus membrane in the upper posterior region and placing graft material into the resulting space, thereby gaining vertical bone height for the implant. These procedures are not necessary for every patient; the decision is made based on 3D tomography measurements.
